Poornima was one of the important actresses in the year 1980s in Tamil cinema. She had acted in more than 70 films including Kilinjalgal, Vidhi, Thanga Magan, Darling Darling Darling and Neengal Kettavai.
In the year 1984 she married actor and director Bhagyaraj. After her marriage she quit her acting. The last film which she had acted was Ungal Veettu Pillai. Her son Shanthnoo is donning lead roles in many films.
Her daughter Saranya Bhagyaraj had donned the female lead role in the film titled Parijatham. After a very long hiatus, Poornima has come back to act in a film. She has been signed for an important role in the film titled Aadhalaal Kadhal Seiveer directed by Suseenthiran. New face Santhosh and actress Manisha who had acted in Vazhakku En 18/9 are in the lead roles.
