The order was passed by Justice K B K Vasuki, on a petition by R K Productions Private Limited.
The order provides for quick action against the offender rather than react after somebody has infringed on the rights of intellectual property owner.
This is the first of its kind John Doe order from the Madras High Court, granting injunction against anonymous people who might be committing a breach of the rights of the plaintiff.
The court posted the matter for further hearing on April 18. It permitted the applicant to publish the injunction order in Tamil and English newspapers so as to make all concerned aware of it.
The John Doe order is well entrenched in the judicial system of the US, Britain, Canada and Australia but is still in its infancy in India.
